Wal-Mart Expands Generic Drug Program

Wal-Mart Stores announced today that it is expanding its generic drug program to include, among other things, drugs used to treat ADD/ADHD. The generic medicines will be available for $4 for a one-month supply.
"'This announcement reinforces our commitment to driving costs out of the health system and saving money for our customers so they can live better, healthier lives,' said Dr. John Agwunobi, Wal-Mart senior vice president and president for the professional services division."
The discount drugs will be offered at over 4,000 Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and Neighborhood Market stores across the nation.

Three cheers for Wal-Mart. And now they've started selling 3 months of those generics for $10. Wow! For my other meds that aren't generic I use the prescription discount card that I found at www.rxdrugcard.com. Low membership fee. Drug prices posted to check before you join.

it is a common misconception that ALL generic drugs are $4. I work for Target pharmacy and they follow the $4 generic drug program. There are lists on Target's pharmacy webpage as I would assume Walmart would have as well. You can request these so when you need to go to the doctor he can prescribe off the list. Other retail pharmacies have things like $15, 90 day supply of some generic drug prescriptions. The $4 generic drug lists also change sometimes based on removal of drugs that cost more than $4 for the store to obtain or addition because of acquisition cost. Although I believe the $4 generic program is a great idea and has helped many people, it has led to many people to mistakenly believe as you did. It is sometimes frustrating trying to explain that the $4 does not pertain to all generics and in addition the $4 is for up to 30 day supply of drug at the commonly prescribed dosage.

Not all prescriptions are $4. Otherwise this is a great deal, my mother does not have health insurance, and she also does not qualify for medicare yet. This this works very well for her, and probably anyone else who has prescriptions that qualify.
